What a Wonderful World

about

I'm lucky to be living near nature right now. The creek running by our place is a source of comfort for me, I love falling asleep to the sound of rain, and the sounds of the crickets remind me of places and people who are far away in the past, but whose memories I hold dear. I had to go without a lot of nature sounds for a few months this winter, living on a busy street corner, so now that I've got wind and water, birds and bugs serenading me, I cherish them!

This song has been haunting me for awhile now. I've been thinking a lot about how wonderful and terrible the world is--and how it can be both profoundly wonderful and terrible in the same instant. About two years ago, I found myself playing this melancholy, quiet version of the Louis Armstrong classic whenever I sat down with a dulcimer, so I added some melancholy, quiet organ to it and then I got busy and the song sat in my computer for over a year.

I'd recorded some ambient nature sounds while living in Dallas, TX (I'll pull out my phone and record a good creek, mockingbird, or rainstorm whenever and wherever), and recently, while looking through old recordings, I decided to add them to my version of What A Wonderful World. I think it brightened the just enough for me to love the song again, and so I wanted to share it with you here and now.

This will be the last of these acoustic instrumental cover songs that I share in this format, I think. One for each primary color is enough for me. Thanks for listening, please have a wonderful day,

Eric
